We often get asked if it is acceptable to apply our Lifeline™ finish systems over an existing oil-based or petroleum stain. It would be nice if there was a simple yes or no answer to this question, but there is not. It depends on a number of factors, including how many coats have been applied, how long the stain has been on the walls, and which oil-based or petroleum stain is present on the wood surface. In general, it is ALWAYS best to remove an existing competitive finish before applying Lifeline.
Wood-boring beetles can be found all across the United States. There are several types of beetles that can be considered "wood-boring” beetles. Often referred to as “wood worms” or “powder post beetles,” wood-boring beetles are responsible for damage to structural wood, second only to termites.
Wood-boring beetles are difficult to control once an infestation has begun. Therefore, prevention is the best management method. Great NEWS: the treatment for all types of wood-boring beetles is the same.
Pressure washing (also referred to power washing) is the function of using highly pressurized water to remove mildew, mold, dirt, pollen, UV graying, etc. You’ll hear different recommendations whether or not pressure washing your logs is the best cleaning method.
Generally speaking, pressure washing is the quickest and least expensive choice.
One fallacy is that you’re saturating and “damaging” your logs with water as a result of pressure washing. This simply isn’t true. On hard, sound, rot-free logs, you’re only introducing water into the top fibers of the wood.

We can help you create a custom wood stain color or match a competitive color with literally thousands of choices. Call any of our Perma-Chink Systems Stores and we'll guide you through the process!
The first step is to select the color you want to create or match. Working with our Customer Reps, we'll help you create that shade using any of our Lifeline family of stains. Remember that we can mix any number and proportion of standard colors from the same Lifeline Family. This provides literally thousands of different stain shades. If your color still is not ‘just right,’ we will blend a custom color for you.
The second step is to get a sample of your color to you. We'll send you a sample of your custom color that you can try out on your home, as semi-transparent stains can appear slightly different, depending on wood type.
The third step, upon your acceptance of the color, is calculate quantities and ship it to you.
It’s that simple! Just call your local Perma-Chink Branch and we’ll get crackin’.
Fine print: Please note that custom colors are not returnable nor refundable.

I used cleaner after cleaner on my 20 year old, completely black log home and the only thing that worked was Wood ReNew. It was like night to day, I couldn’t even believe it.
